“First, listen to each other.”
Faiza, pursuing her master’s in computer science, is a Youth Champion 2019 as part of the Agaaz-e-Baatcheet program. Let’s hear what she has got to say about her journey.
In late 2019, I found myself at a crossroads, unsure where my path would lead. Then, my professor recommended Rubaroo’s Agaaz-e-Baatcheet program, a suggestion that would change my perspective. With curiosity, I stepped into the world of Rubaroo, eager to explore the realms of interfaith dialogue and youth empowerment.
Empowering Leadership and Ownership
The workshops and activities at Rubaroo were nothing short of transformative. From engaging in the iceberg exercise to participating in discussions about conflicts and diverse religious beliefs, I challenged myself to confront my biases and preconceptions. “The non-judgmental space provided by Rubaroo was instrumental in building my leadership and communication skills,” I realised. Each activity prompted me to think deeply about different backgrounds and perspectives, fostering a greater sense of empathy and understanding within me.
Empowering Leadership and Ownership
One of the most profound shifts I experienced during my time with Rubaroo was in overcoming my fear and embracing acceptance. I’ll admit—I used to feel apprehensive about interacting with transgender individuals. However, through the supportive environment of Rubaroo, I learned to let go of my prejudices and see people for who they truly are. “The journey helped me understand the importance of not judging others,” I reflect, grateful for the opportunity to broaden my perspective. My journey with Rubaroo inspired me to envision a world where diversity is celebrated, and everyone is valued for their unique contributions.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
As Rubaroo approaches its 10-year milestone, I am grateful for the organization’s transformative impact. “Huge gratitude for the Rubaroo team,” I express, acknowledging their dedication to nurturing youth agency and fostering interfaith dialogue. Looking ahead, I hope to see Rubaroo expand its reach, allowing more young people to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery and empowerment. “If possible, many more centers should be established, especially in rural areas,” I suggest, recognizing the need for increased accessibility to Rubaroo’s invaluable programs.
