“Found the perfect melody for harmony”
Sanjeeth, a professional music producer, lyricist, and composer, was a teenager when he joined Agaaz in 2017 on the recommendation of a lecturer.
My journey with Rubaroo began in 2017 upon the recommendation of my college professor. Sceptical, I stepped into the world of Agaaz-e-Baatcheet – the first cohort. I didn’t know what to expect, imagining it to be another lecture hall setting where I’d quietly listen.
But this was different; I was immediately struck by the warmth and hospitality extended by the community. There was a great aura around it – people supporting each other and a wave of inclusivity I hadn’t experienced before. What followed was something I couldn’t imagine as it left a long-lasting impact on my life.
Discovering Unity through Play
Through various fun activities and initiatives within Rubaroo, I began to broaden my understanding of society and its interconnectedness. Perhaps one activity I vividly remember is the “bomb and shield” exercise, which metaphorically depicted how the onus of societal harmony lies on collective efforts and understanding. It made me realize how, in our small efforts, we’re responsible for sustaining a peaceful society.
But you know what was the most transformative experience? It was the interfaith walk where we went from one religious place to another, got exposed to many perspectives and heard stories of harmony. Not only that, but the conversations revolved around gender and religion, and there I found the connection between gender, faith, and societal issues.
Speaking Up as a Musician
After graduating as a Youth Champion, the world didn’t change for me, but I changed – my thoughts changed. I was a different person. I became more empathetic and open to talking to people of all genders and identities. It opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about life and shaped my personality.
In fact, as a professional musician, I work towards channelling my experiences and talent to spread positivity in society. When I look back to the introverted self in 2017, Sanjeeth is far more courageous and values safe spaces now. And that’s why I’d penned a song dedicated to Rubaroo and performed it at the grand closure ceremony of Agaaz-e-Baatcheet.
Going forward, I’d love to contribute towards bringing people together and help the organization in any way possible.
