“Believe in Yourself – Always”
Meet Zara, a budding nutritionist whose journey with Rubaroo was nothing short of transformative. From her humble beginnings in 2018 as a Youth Champion to her current pursuit of a master’s in nutrition, Zara has championed tackling challenges in her life. Read on as we uncover Zara’s journey, which is laden with invaluable lessons and belief in the power of community-driven initiatives.
An Opportunity to Explore
Zara’s journey with Rubaroo began in 2018 when she joined the Agaaz-e-Baatcheet based on the recommendations of her friends. Little did she know, this decision would shape her perspective on life and contribute to her personal and professional growth in ways she never imagined.
Reflecting on her early days with Rubaroo, Zara vividly recalls an eye-opening activity where she and her peers were tasked with interacting with strangers on her streets. This experience revealed to her the diverse backgrounds and perspectives people hold, leading her to adopt a more empathetic approach towards others.
“Most of the time, we didn’t have the opportunity to go out and see what’s happening in the world – but now, I’m conscious of different opinions and try to get to know people before judging them. Now I’ve friends from different religions, and I cherish these bonds and try to understand their perspective.”
Breaking Barriers
Growing up as a Muslim, Zara shared that she didn’t have exposure to people from other religions. She realized that her linear thinking didn’t help the cause. Hence, joining Agaaz and later Samvidhan Live helped her change her perspective and build healthy friendships. It has boosted her confidence and communication skills as she navigates the world outside and presents her viewpoint.
“A lot of times, people impose their decisions. Let’s say the family imposes their decision on marriage and studies. I know what I want and don’t want to disregard what they say. But right now, I want to pursue and do what I want. This journey has helped me converse with my parents as I realize I’ve got to speak for myself; otherwise, nobody will. You keep quiet and respect the elders on what they say, but one day, you have these heart-to-heart conversations with them and let them know what you think.”
Since then, it has been a smooth ride for Zara as her parents have supported her decision to pursue her dreams. She’s pursuing a master’s in Nutrition and takes time to engage in other social activities.
Stand Tall and Believe in Yourself
“Rubaroo doesn’t enforce things; it makes people understand it in their journey. I needed this journey after the emotional turmoil the year before joining. I had a good time where people talked, listened, and understood each other. Like, I see my friends also pursuing their dreams and not bound to the shell that’s defined us for so long.”
“When asked about a piece of advice for young changemakers, Zara says, “Every young person needs such a space where they feel heard, and I felt that I belonged and my opinions mattered. So, go with the flow and learn whatever you can.”
Standing true to her motto – Keep Believing in Yourself – she’s stood as a pillar of strength amid adversity and overcame it triumphantly. As she continues to grow and evolve, she remains grounded and wills more young people to undergo this journey – and countless stories of change yet to be written.
